Basilicata, with its narrow stretch of coastline, is dominated by the town of Maratea. The region features a rugged coastline where the mountains meet the sea without any intermediaries. The Lucanian Apennines come to an abrupt end and plunge over 1500 meters down to the water. The blend of sea and mountains has created breathtaking scenery, with small beaches surrounded by rocks, and caves of various sizes. It’s in these marvelous places that our proposal for a seaside holiday in Basilicata unfolds.
Our program offers the perfect mix of beach relaxation, cultural activities, and nature excursions, both in Maratea and the surrounding areas. We’ll introduce you to the history of the Christ of Maratea, hike to the summit of Mount Coccovello, which stands 1500 meters above sea level, and explore the Pollino National Park. You’ll embark on two coastal hikes along the “Apprezzami l’asino” and “Mediterraneo” trails to learn about the customs and legends of the people of Maratea. Every day, you’ll have the opportunity to relax and enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the sea in Maratea, without the need to worry about transfers for activities. We’ll pick you up and drop you off at the hotel.

Morning: Excursion to Mt. Coccovello (round-trip transfer from the hotel included)
Mount Coccovello, located between Maratea, Trecchina, and Rivello, stands at 1505 meters, making it the highest mountain in the eastern part of the Lucanian Apennines. Thanks to its geographical position, its summit offers the beauty of the green mountains embracing the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea, providing a unique view of the Gulf of Policastro and the coast of Maratea.
We will start from the Timpa del Tuono location (1097 meters) to reach the summit, following a spectacular trail that allows us to enjoy the blend of sea and mountains that only this mountain can offer.

Morning: Excursion from Trecchina to Serra Pollino
Don’t be misled by the name; Mount Serra Pollino is a peak located in the municipality of Trecchina, a few kilometers from Maratea, sharing only the name with the homonymous national park.
Get ready to admire the blue of the sea from a balcony situated at 1099 meters above sea level.

The Christ of Maratea is the quintessential symbol of Maratea. Starting from the historic center of Maratea, we will reach Mount San Biagio and the statue of Christ, where we will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Policastro.

Full Day: Excursion to the Garden of the Gods in Pollino National Park (round-trip transfer from the hotel included)
Excursion to the Garden of the Gods. The sixth-day journey takes us to one of the most beautiful and magical places in Basilicata and perhaps southern Italy. Starting from Colle dell’Impiso, we will first reach the Piani di Pollino and from there enter the heart of the Garden of the Gods between Serretta la Porticella and Serra di Crispo, where we will walk in the shade of majestic millennia-old Loricati pine trees.

The excursion starts from the Port of Sapri. The first stretch, called the “Lovers’ Trail,” is paved, and there are several fountains from the municipal aqueduct. As we walk, we have the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Gulf of Policastro on our right. Along the route, there are some detours leading to the cliffs. One of these leads to the Grotto of the Column (not visitable), and another, halfway through, leads to a beautiful cove where we can take a dip directly from the rocks. After the swim, we continue to the Midnight Tower with a breathtaking view.
