In June 2021, the beautiful Via Ferrata to the Christ the Redeemer of Maratea was inaugurated — one of the most scenic via ferratas in the Basilicata region.
It’s a route of rare beauty that unfolds along the rocky ridge leading to the statue of Christ in Maratea. As you ascend, the view opens up to reveal the entire Gulf of Policastro. From the final Tibetan bridges, it feels like you’re walking suspended directly above the boats in Maratea’s harbor—over 600 meters below!

How much does it cost to rent the safety gear for the Via Ferrata to the Christ of Maratea?
The rental price is €20.00 It includes a helmet and a harness with a lanyard and two carabiners. The rental duration is 3 hours, which is enough time to complete the via ferrata and return. Wearing gloves is mandatory.
Please note that the via ferrata is free of charge for those who have their own safety harness. There is no entrance fee to pay.
What are the hours and days to rent the safety kit?
It is possible to rent the safety kits for the via ferrata every day in 3-hour shifts.
Pickup time for the morning shift is from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
Pickup time for the afternoon shift is from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
Pickup time to be arranged at the time of booking. During the period from October to March, it is mandatory to book at least 2 days in advance by calling or sending a WhatsApp message to the number 0973 890039.
How long does it take to complete the Via Ferrata to the Christ of Maratea?
The time to complete the via ferrata depends on each individual and their climbing speed. Generally, the entire activity takes about three hours:
Route from the rental point to the start of the via ferrata: 15 minutes on foot
Via ferrata hiking time: approximately 2 hours
Return route to the starting point: 45 minutes on foot
How do I get back to the starting point?
There are three options: hiking the 3-kilometer Carpini Trail, taking the San Biagio Trail, or using a public bus.

It is preferable to wear approach shoes, climbing or trekking shoes, or sneakers with lug soles (no Converse, no Superga).
