Forest Bathing Retreats
Forest Bathing and other nature immersion experiences
There is a growing desire in our society to live a healthier, more authentic, and sustainable life, in line with the true nature of being human and the planet we inhabit. More and more people seek to detoxify from overexposure to technology and let their ‘inner compass’ guide them toward happiness. In this regard, the connection with nature – as scientific research demonstrates – is an ideal way to promote health and well-being, peace, and relaxation.
Ivy Tour and Società Selvatica’s Forest Bathing retreats offer a diverse program of nature immersion experiences and activities, based on a carefully developed and passionately crafted philosophy. From forest baths to eco-art, from mindful walking to stargazing, each day is designed to foster a deep connection with the surrounding environment, yielding numerous benefits. It’s a journey of self-discovery where participants, led by certified Forest Bathing guides, can reconnect with themselves and experience the transformative power of Nature.
How do our Forest Bathing retreats work?
Ivy Tour and Società Selvatica offer retreats of varying durations in facilities immersed in nature and silence. Each day includes at least one forest bath, combined with other nature connection activities. In addition to participating in the activities led by certified Forest Bathing guides and, in some cases, other experts, each participant is free to take time for themselves, listening to what they need at any given moment.
In these nature immersion journeys, the activities are oriented towards relaxation and exploring a connection with nature, rather than trekking or sports. There is no need to be an experienced hiker; anyone who wishes to ‘unplug’ and spend time immersed in nature in tranquility and safety is welcome.
Forest baths: through a series of various invitations, Forest Bathing encourages the opening of the senses to the natural environment through effortless attention. It is also based on various mindfulness principles, such as slowing down while walking in the forest and promoting an emotional connection with the natural environment.
A forest bath is primarily an individual experience, but those who desire can also find a relational component that relaxes the body, opens the mind, and warms the heart. First and foremost, the simple act of experiencing such intensity with other people can foster a pleasant connection with them. Additionally, some invitations involve partner or small group activities. There are also circle gatherings, which provide a moment to share one’s experience, but without any pressure: even silence can be a form of sharing.
Let's innovate and network, with the planet in our mind
The Forest Bathing retreats, carried out in collaboration with Società Selvatica, represent a pioneering initiative in Italy. They extend the forest bathing experience over multiple days and integrate it in various ways to enhance its beneficial effects. Through these activities, Ivy Tour aims to make a concrete contribution to scientific research on the beneficial effects of nature on human well-being.
Ivy Tour and Società Selvatica have initiated a research collaboration with two departments at the University of Padova (Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry – TESAF and Department of General Psychology – DPG). This collaboration focuses on administering questionnaires to participants in the Forest Bathing retreats. The responses to these voluntary questionnaires will serve as the basis for a study on the benefits of nature in terms of health, well-being, and countering the consequences of overexposure to technology.
A portion of the proceeds from these activities will be donated to WOWnature, an initiative by Etifor, a spinoff of the University of Padova, which focuses on planting new trees. Our trees will contribute to the EU’s goal of planting 3 billion trees by 2030 to improve the quantity and quality of forests, mitigate the effects of climate change, and combat biodiversity loss.
They say about us
We recently hosted a group of journalists to experience one of our retreats. The most common immediate comment they gave us was, “Beyond every rosy expectation.”
“Three days immersed in the forest to rediscover oneself through nature” is the title of Paola Rosa Adragna’s article in La Repubblica, describing our retreats as a way “to unplug from the everyday frenzy and slow down through contact with nature and the reconnection with our planet, to discover (or rediscover) parts of the soul that the distractions of modern life have relegated to the last priority.“
Simona Falasca, the director of GreenMe, tells us “10 things I learned from doing forest bathing in the Pollino.“
“It was a moment of deep inner reconnection with the surrounding nature“, wrote Daniela Bartolini on ItaliaCheCambia.
Letizia Sgalambro, on Erotodo108, describes how she “witnessed an insect sucking the pollen from a small flower by immersing itself completely inside with its stinger and upright backside, something I had never seen before!“
Sabina Frauzel (alias The Swinging Mom) talks about how to “rejuvenate in nature with a mini escape from daily life“.
Annaleni Pozzoli took us to all the newsstands in Italy with Donna Moderna, describing her “first forest bathing“.
“The practice of ‘forest bathing’ allows for total immersion in nature to awaken the body and mind. Slow steps, kindness, the right to disconnect: a new way to get to know or recognize oneself.” With these words, Giulia Assogna introduces her article published in La Nuova Ecologia (July-August 2022 edition), the newspaper of Legambiente.
“Forest Bathing, a wellness practice where contact with nature improves the quality of life, arrives in Sicily“, announces Clara Minissale, where you can find the full article on Madeinsicily.it.
Gianluca Salcioli, in L’Altra Medicina, provides an overview of Ivy Tour and Forest Bathing: direct connection with nature: “Ivy Tour’s Forest Bathing retreats offer a varied program of nature immersion experiences based on a philosophy developed with care and passion. From forest baths to eco-art, from mindful walks to stargazing, each day is designed to foster a deep connection with the surrounding environment, yielding numerous benefits“.
