Venture into the unique archaeological sites that make Matera a gem of Basilicata.
The time machine starts, and we go back millions of years! We will begin the discovery from the origins of Matera by exploring the Grotta dei Pipistrelli, a place that tells us about the birth of the natural landscape and an archaeological site where the primitive traces of human presence in the territory were found.
With a leap in time, we then find ourselves in the more recent prehistory to discover the suggestive Neolithic village at Murgia Timone, an area of the Matera Murgia that encapsulates centuries of history until the medieval era, of which we literally have the keys to show you from the inside the fascinating rock churches that dominate the city’s skyline. The last stop of our historical and archaeological journey will take us to the so-called “Saracen Village“, an ancient medieval village nestled among the rocks and surrounded by pristine nature.
Matera awaits you with its extraordinary testimonies of the past, which we will make you discover thanks to our archaeologist and environmental hiking guide Matteo, offering you an unforgettable experience that will make you experience the perfect fusion of human history and ingenuity and natural beauties, inspiring you to a sustainable lifestyle.
Participants arrive in Matera in the early afternoon: welcome and accommodation in the structure.
3:45 PM Transfer and excursion to the outskirts of Matera, to Murgia Serra Sant’Angelo, where together with our archaeologist and environmental hiking guide Matteo, we will visit the Grotta dei Pipistrelli, the oldest site to set foot in Matera, and the nearby rock settlement with a spectacular view of the ravine.
Following that, transfer to the Sassi di Matera with a visit to the MOOM Museum, Matera Olive Oil Museum, and accompanied walk to the cathedral.
The day ends in the historic center with a welcome dinner.

Breakfast and transfer to Murgia Timone for the morning trek.
Guided excursion by our archaeologist and environmental hiking guide Matteo, to the Neolithic village, to the rock churches of San Falcione and Madonna delle Tre Porte overlooking the viewpoint of Matera from which we will admire the Sassi.
Following that: return to the park entrance and packed lunch (not included) in the picnic area of Masseria Radogna.

Breakfast and transfer to Parco dei Monaci, a short distance from Matera.
ArcheoTrekking to the “Saracen Village”: in the heart of the Murgia, one of the most suggestive places in the entire park area hosts a medieval village entirely carved into the rock and equipped with ancient houses and rock churches. A unique place of its kind, where together with our archaeologist and environmental hiking guide Matteo, we will walk through history and see what the city of Matera might have looked like in the Middle Age.
In the background are the church of Cristo La Selva and the ravine, which offer a breathtaking panorama, as well as the splendid Masseria Passarelli.
Finally, a light lunch at the property of the Lamacchia family with a tasting of typical products enveloped in the magical atmosphere of an olive grove overlooking the ravine.
In conclusion, farewells and return transfer to Matera for check-out and departure.

By train
Take Freccialink to Salerno and then change to Frecciarossa for/from Turin, Milan, Reggio Emilia AV, Bologna, Florence, Rome, and Naples.
By plane
Arrive at Bari airport and then take bus connections from Bari to Matera.
Always carry at least 1.5 liters of water and snacks with you.
